Simply relax on the balcony with a glass of wine, or by the pool with a
good book, walk or cycle along the river bank, or canoe along the
river. Watch out for red squirrels, kingfishers and other wildlife.
Drive to one of many medieval bastide towns and enjoy excellent
restaurants, museums, markets, shops, and the vibrancy of living
traditions. The list of activities is endless. You can do as much, or
as little, as you wish and we are absolutely sure you will not be
disappointed.

The Owners
We are Andy and Frances Lewis. We bought Les Saules in March 2006, having long dreamed of
owning, and eventually, living in France.
We fell in love with the house because of its village location, the
wide open spaces and the light and airy living accommodation. It felt
like “home from home”, and we have had some wonderful
holidays here. We live in Cheltenham and we use the house for family
holidays, entertaining and parties, as well as for letting. We can fly
out of Bristol or Birmingham, our local regional airports at 10 o clock
and be cracking open a bottle of local wine or cider on the terrace by
tea time. The drive from Le Havre is longer, but manageable. It is so
much easier and enjoyable to drive in France, than it is in the UK.
We love the location, the panorama and the constantly changing light on
the surrounding hills and river valley. We enjoy walking to the
boulangerie every morning and evening for fresh bread and milk and that
all important bottle of wine! We nearly always eat out on the terrace,
weather permitting, sitting on the east side in the morning, and the
south in the afternoons to make the most of the sunshine. There is
nothing better than an apple, and fig and walnut crumble, made with freshly
picked fruit from the garden. We always enjoy a good barbeque –
we highly recommend the local meat and sausages. We are fascinated by
the starlings which fly in “squadrons” and congregate every
summer evening down by the river. We love to watch the birds of prey,
see kingfishers and red squirrels. The neighbours are charming,
approachable and very French.
